ORTIZ was founded in Ondarroa of Spain in 1891 and now in the hand of the fifth generation of the ORTIZ family. Over 100 years of heritage in producing a delicious range of “Pescado del Mar Cantabrico” (Fish of Cantabrian Sea) by artisan methods. Well-known for its premium quality Atlantic fish products. Among the high number of marine species which inhabit the Cantabrian Sea, Anchoas (Anchovies) and Bonito del Norte (Atlantic White Tuna) are the top 2 most outstanding species popular of their finest quality.
The ORTIZ family has been committed to traditional and sustainable fishing techniques to maintain a high quality of flavour and texture of ORTIZ products, whilst protecting marine ecosystems. Using the traditional “Live Bait” technique, white tunas are fished individually by rod and line. With excellent craft techniques to prevent the fish from being bruised or harmed. Most of the production processes are done by hand instead of machines.
